Yesterday we built a definition of genocide as a group. Today we expanded that definition by evaluating the Rwandan genocide and the 8-Stages of genocide. It was a difficult conversation, but also gave us the historical context we need for Hotel Rwanda.

Your homework over the weekend is to finish reading the 8-Stages of Genocide handout from today before re-writing each stage (1-2 sentences) in your own words.
Today we talked more about the Congo! We discussed the methods that Leopold used to "justify" his actions, the immediate and long-term impact of these actions on the Congolese people, and how journalists worked to disprove Leopold's claims and ultimately shed light on the wrongs of the Congo Free State.
